My ex husband came over today to pick my daughter up as he has her every other weekend, and i could see he was upset so i asked him what the matter was as we do get on still well, He was in a really good job up until the beginning of last year and i got good maintanance from him until he got made redundant, He new 6 months previous that he was beeing made redundant and ploughed through with a new big wedding with his now wife ( they went to st lucia for there honey moon) I was a bit peeved as i still did not see a penny towards my daughters upbringing but he could afford that holiday, anyway to cut a long story short he came out with that he is in so much debt that he is now unable to cope, from the £40.000 year job he was on he is only getting £5.50 an hour temping in a factory and from what he is telling me i think he is in alot of debt, I know some of you abers will help with debt sollutions can anyone who has been in this situation please help with forwarding on links so that i can hand them to him tomorrow night when he brings Kate home as i would like to help him as much as i can, I am not in a situation that i can help as i have been bankrupt for 8 years now which doing so means i cannot ask anywhere for money and in the end you have to get on with it and cut back in which this has done me the world of good i am no more MRS Bouquet a but more like Onslo but far happier without the stress of finance

I hope some of you will really help with good debt places

Many thanks

Thanks people please keep them coming he is a nice bloke really, He was so upset when i saw him he was crying and i just feel if i could just give him any helpful information i will, aparently sara his new wife cannot work as she has had a back injury in the past and been to see a Hospital specialist this week and they have told her that she needs bed rest for 2 months as if she does not do it she will end up in a wheel chair for the rest of her life, ( I got that out of him as i wanted to know why she was not earning anything towards the debts) I did not know

Thanks
Many people recommend contacting the Citizens' Advice Bureau for help with debt problems. Your ex can find his local branch here:
http://www.citizensadvice.org.uk/cabdir.ihtml

However many CAB branches currently have a long waiting list to see a specialist debt adviser. A quicker alternative (which I've used and can recommend) is to contact CCCS. It's a registered charity which is dedicated to providing support to people with money problems. They've got an online help service here:
https://debtremedy.cccs.co.uk/
Alternatively they can be contacted (0800-2000, Mon-Fri only) on their free helpline:
0800 138 1111

PS: The current minimum wage (for a worker aged 22 or over) is £5.80 per hour. If your ex is only receiving £5.50 per hour, he should complain.

Make sure that his wife is claiming any benefits that she may be entitled to due to her disability. DLA springs to mind.
If he has a computer and can access the internet, I recommend he checks out the forums on www.moneysavingexpert.com

There are several sections on the forum there, which he can sign up to anonyously, which deal with how to get advice in dealing with debt, who to contact and he will also be able to see how other people have coped in similar difficult financial circumstances.
A friend of mine is with cccs, and the relief when they take control of your debts and deal with the creditors is immense, they deal with all the phone calls and letters and give you the information you need to get your life back on track. They agree an amount monthly that you can afford. They are not judgemental, this is their job day in and day out, and even if my friend occasionally misses a payment they still deal with the people owed the money, so the debts don't build up any more. The biggest step is admitting there is a problem, even if its not to his wife, by talking to you he is starting on the road to recovery.
