I have searched the registers for 1917 but there is no Holder/Gurr marriage there. I will try another website.
Sorry, sammmo, I have now searched the registers for 1918 but have had no luck. Two Lilian Gurrs married in the second quarter of that year but neither to a spouse with the surname Holder.
I've looked too from 1915 - 1919 and can't find them, could they possibly have had a wedding not in england or wales? I wonder if your mother only knew what she was told or assumed.
I have now looked on the 1901 Census and see that Neighbour Holder was then 10 years old. He was born in Crowlas, Cornwall, in 1891. In 1901 he was living with his family at 42, Fairview Road, Cheltenham.

I expect you already have these details.
Hello dothawkes31. You're far better at delving than I am. Glad you're getting on this case.
I found him in cornwall too but sammo says he was from cheltenham! 3 lilian gurrs were married on the index but none to a neighbour holder or variant,
Neighbour Holder born Sept 1/4 1890 Penzance 5c 233. O]He seems to be the only person born with this unusual name...........between 1837 and 1915.

thanks for looking.. I think they may not of actually wed and just told my mother that they had.. although i have a picture of them both, her in a nice dress and a nice hat and him in his uniform, which my mother said was taken on there wedding day.. apparently neighbour told her he was still lousy from the trenches and married her whilst on leave ..

yes he was born in crowlas.. then moved to cheltenham.. Idon't know how he got the name neighbour..it is unusual is'nt it
Lilian CARTER married Norman HOLDER Jun 1/4 1916 in Gravesend, Kent.
is there a Lilian Gurr on the 1901? I haven't got access to the 1901 just now,
Lilian M Gurr daughter of
Richard S,
Alice M abt 1894 Whitstable, Kent, England
Upper Upnor is nearer Rochester RD than whitstable, it's very curious. I wonder if there was a military chaplain who married them, did neighbour go to the reserves for a few years and later get a pension?
The 1901 Census shows Lilian Gurr living at 4 High Street, Whitstable, Kent, as a seven-year old child. Her father was Richard S. Gurr, a refreshment contractor, & her mother was Alice M. Gurr.

Father was born in Brighton in 1869 and mother was born in Whitstable in 1868.
I have found mention of a Kathleen Tiller who married a chap named Carter-Gurr in Dec 1/41922 in Sevenoakes..........I'll have a shufftie and see what I can find.
As he was in uniform I have checked all weddings from 1914, the outbreak of war, up until the birth of their daughter, I assume your mother, in 1923.
Can you not check your mothers birth certificate and look at the wording in the space for details of mother.
