I have got a 1920s? lamppost with the following markings - 12 and a half o EFLA patn
I would like to find out more about it. Was it converted from a gas lamp post to electric, I wonder?
What do the markings mean?

I really need pictures of lamp-posts from this period, as I would like to renovate it, but can't find any UK ones on the internet.

Has anyone got any thoughts please?

Just guessing

12 and a half : Is it 12' 6" high?

EFLA patn : patn will probably stand for pattern. LA could be Local Authority. Any ideas where it came from to find a place starting EF?

My mistake. It says ESLA, not EFLA. Thank you both for your help.
ESLA - Electrical Street Lighting Apparatus. They made street lighting lanterns, brackets and columns from the early 1920s through to the 1950s.

See http://www.simoncornwell.com/lighting/manufact /esla/index.htm for more about the firm, and http://www.simoncornwell.com/lighting/collect/ lanterns/index.htm for restored ESLA lanterns in my collection.

All the best,
Simon

So pleased to receive your answer. A relative has a lamppost that needs restoring and I have passed the details on. No doubt she will be in contact with you. I will give her the website details and she can find the contact address. Thank you again.
