bulldog badge

i've just found a pin badge in the attic.
it is a silver face of a billdog wearing a world war helmet. there is a badge on the hat resembling wings and on the dog's collar are the words 'first to fight'. it's about 2.5 cms by 3 cms. there's an oval shaped embossed bit on the back surrounded by tiny stars but i can't make out what's in the middle.
any ideas how old this is or even what it is?

Not sure of the age or specific details of the pin, however the bulldog and motto indicate it commemorates the US Marine Corps... perhaps similar in design to this coin.
