An 'Armada' is specifically a fleet of warships. Although one definition of 'Fleet' is a group of naval ships it also has a wider meaning for example a fleet of ships owned by a company.
yes, 'armada' in Spanish means 'armed'. (Though I believe the Spanish armada itself was not aiming at a sea battle, but was more like a fleet of troop ships carrying an invading army.)
The word armada means 'armed' or 'army'. The plan was to sail to the narrow part of the English Channel. The ships would then have formed a line across the channel, covering the invasion by Spanish troops from the Netherlands. The purpose of the invasion was to convert England to a Catholic country. There were several reasons for the venture's failure, starting with the appointment of a leader (Medina-Sidonia) who had never been to sea. The Armada made such an impact on the English that the word was adopted into the English language to describe a fleet.
'Armada' is simply the Spanish word for 'Navy' which is why the Spanish fleet has always been known by this term. All Spanish naval personnel and equipment (such as aircraft) carry the title 'Armada' in the same way that English-speaking countries use 'Navy'.
Armada Espaola is the Spanish Navy (armada = navy). When we talk of the Spanish Armada, people (in the UK) generally assume that we are referring to the 1588 episode. However, the Spanish Armada goes back to 1492 and still exists under that name today.

The 1588 episode of the anglo-spanish war also gave rise to the expression, the English Armada or the Counter Armada. The armada's on both sides consisted of a 'fleet' of warships. A fleet is a collection of ships or vehicles, in this case a Naval fleet.
