Yes it is based on local legend and the chained oak still exists and can be seen/visited in Alton. See Alton Towers website: HERE
I remember when Alton Towers was just a boating lake and a big wavy slide you sat on a mat to go down. There was the house of course!

I remember that too! Do you remember the sea lions?

They had sea Lions...? The boating lake sticks in my mind because I fell out of a boat and tried to swim to an island in the middle - before realising that the lake was only a couple of feet deep, so I stood up and just hung my head in shame!
This ride is quite incredible,completely disorientates you and has started my partner and I on a quest to find out more about the Legend and Charles Talbot ,the Earl who started it all
