Does the Duke of Edinburgh still drive around London in his taxi? I believe he picked up some Japanese tourists and gave them a tour of the sites without charging them a penny. What a gentleman. Our dear Queen not to be outdone regularly visits the East End enjoying apple pie and jelly with the locals, carrying on the tradition started by her late beloved mother. What a fine example they are to everyone with their selfless devotion in helping Londons poor and looking after lost foreign visitors. Three cheers I say!

oh yes, he picked me up and took me to Stepney the other night but the blighter overcharged me terribly. It's my belief he's fixed the meter. I'd report him to the police but I believe they've all sworn allegiance to him.
I think you are getting confused. Prince Charles does architecture tours in an open top bus - he obviously doesn't do the driving but he does the commentary. Young Prince Henry does the driving when he is not doing his paper round.
Of course since Sarah Ferguson split up with Prince Anthony she has been coaching a football team in the north and Princess Anne has had to get the burger van out of the lock up since she lost all her money on the gee gee's.
Gawd luv em all i say.
They all do so much for tourism in this country dont they - i'm glad we never got rid of them when we went metric.
I had that Duke of Edinburgh in the front of my cab once.

Not sure about the Duke of Edinburgh and his taxi, but I have seen Prince William and Harry on the tube. Honestly!

It was quite a few years ago (before Diana died) and my mum and I were travelling on the district line. It was during the daytime, on a week day. The carriage was quite empty, but at St James's Park a few people got on including two young boys who looked very much like the princes and were about the right age and sat directly opposite us. Other people included a middle aged woman who sat next to them and various other people who got on at other doors and either stood in the doorways or scattered around the carriage. You wouldn't have known that all of the people were together and it was only afterwards that we realised they were probably (armed!) minders. Mum and I couldn't believe what we were seeing, and the two boys looked rather mischevious, looking over at us gawping at them and nudging each other. The boys got off at South Kensington. I can't remember what happened to the other people who got on the train at the same time as them.

Obviously we couldn't be 100% sure who we had just seen but the stops they got on and off at seemed to fit (I think Princess Diana lived at St Jame's Palace?) and a little while afterwards we read an article somewhere that confirmed the princes had travelled by public transport, including the tube. I've just done various google searches trying to find this confirmation, but can't find anything...

this is not some subtle oblique reference to taxi drivers being racist is it?

He certainly does, he came to visit our council headquarters last year and arrived in one- he doesn't drive it though, that was his chauffeur that did that, but he was sitting in the back.
