My other half is on a low dose of this for anxiety. It took about 4 weeks for it to work on him and the results have been fab!! I have my boyfriend backk, and he's so much happier!!
Personally I had a bad time with this drug, but I have had much worse times. All I can say is each drug affects different people in very different ways. Just stick to the guidelines, take it as recommended if you start to feel bad with it tell your gp DO NOT take yourself off the drug without consulting your doctor and hoepfully it will help you. Hope you feel better soon.

I was prescribed Citalpram/Cipramil 2 years ago but it did'nt work for me. I became very agitated, could'nt stand or walk unaided so had to get off them.I was then prescribed Seroxat which Im now addicted to and cant get off although Im using the liquid to reduce. SSRI's are not the best Ad's by far. Even if they help, the addiction factor far outweighs the benefits. We have members in our support group through hell in their attempts to be Seroxat and other ssri's free. [email protected]

I was given Citalopram a couple of years back and i can honestly say that it was the worst decision my Dr ever made. I suffered bad side effects, became even more unstable (if that was possible) and put on nearly 2 stones in weight. However to reiterate what has already been said drugs work differently depending on the person so if in a few weeks you feel better or worse then go see your Dr and they'll sort it out for you.

Best of luck

DO NOT get me started on Seroxat lol - I cannot stress how ill that made me and I still get affects from it now after being free from it for over a year & a half. I, so far have not found one drug that has been compatible for me, after 10 years trying I have given up the drug route myself. But there must be success stories for Citalopram otherwise they would not keep prescribing it, same with most drugs. Its unfortunatly a trial and error situation but hopefully it will work for you and you can start to feel better very soon.

thanks for all your answers.I have another question do you know anythingabout drinking alcohol whilst taking Citalopram ,I drink a lot(far too much)

As far as I am aware you DO NOT drink whilst on any anti-depressants - read the leaflet with the drugs provided, it will tell you why and if you can.

Hi miss moon cat,

I have been on Citalopram and found it very helpful. I hadn't ever taken any sort of medication before so I have nothing to compare it with, but it seemed to work for me.

As for drinking, if I drank a lot I would have a kind of 'spaced out' hangover rather than a regular one, other than that there's no real problem.

I think it's such a shame people with problems have to be prescribed drugs at all. I wish doctors could find some other way to help folks without them becoming so dependent on man-made drugs!
takes about six weeks to kick in,why not kick the coffee habit and try st. johns wort, works for mild to medium depression, takes bout 4 wks to kick in and no side effects when you want to come off it,good luck, counselling helped me a grt deal sometimes meds are not the only answer
