You appear to have mixed up, on the one hand, a sheep and on the other, an item of ladies sanitary wear. I hope this helps.
Why would sheep expand in the rain?
sheep ALWAYS expand when they breathe in, and if they get soaking wet;I helped pull one out of a canal once, it was very heavy.
This is a slightly more sensible answer to your question then the thing I posted. I spoke to a farmer friend and they said that when it rains water just remains on the surface of the sheeps wool so they won't expand. But in the case of X, if the sheep is dipped for a prolonged period in water its wool will absorb water and become heavier but not expand.
If the wool gets wet, it will get heavy and squash down under its own weight and sheep might actually contract !!!
Sheep's wool contains lanolin, which is an excellent waterproofing agent, so unless they are submerged in a canal or inland sea for a period of time then the water should not really affect them.
