Is the biggest myth (lie) ever told the one about god , jesus, allah, and any other gods that modern day man still believes in, inspite of the fact that it is all just ballony?

All depends, if your a believer, its not a myth, to toddlers, Father Christmas is real. Only non believers say there's no God, but they can't prove it. True believers don't need proof, because they know. at least, they say they do, and who are we to say they're wrong. I understand where your coming from, I just don't think anyone can say that. If there's a critism, and there are many, its in the way the various religions interpret their belief.
Like Lonnie, I say it depends. Someone famous (can't remember who) said that if God didn't exist then Man would have invented him! Sems to me that it is difficult for mankind (both sexes) find it hard to conclude that THIS is all the is! Surely there must be something after this!!! So let's invent a Supreme being. If I'm right then yeppie-do. If I'm wrong then "no harm done"!!!
Pretty sure it was Karl Marx who said your quote, Don, but don't quote me!

To answer your question Doughnut, and nobody has yet, yes it is the biggest myth (lie) and all ballony!

But you will never win this argument with the so called believers!

It was Voltaire, Stu (and Don).
also a myth isn't (necessarily) a lie!
This isnt a myth, its lie, there is no God or Supreme being. People are to insecure to think other wise. That is the problem with having a mind and a conscience. What is wrong with there being nothing when you die? You dont see animals praying to Jesus or kneeling to Mecca, why not, many animals are more beautiful than us, more caring and treat each other, and us in some cases, with love and respect. With what man does to each other and the planet, I would be devastated if this myth (lie) was true and we did go to some other place. Look at the carry on over a couple of cartoons. Scary, if there was no myth, there would not be any war anywhere in the world. We would have to get by on logic and common sense.

Fender, its people like you who perpetuate this nonsense, why doesnt it hurt to hope? Look around the planet, the world is riddled with wars because people are "hoping", hoping they are picking the right God or whatever. Would it not be better to accept that there is nothing after death and make the most of what we have, live together in harmony, work to eradicate famine, poverty, illness, explore space and achieve the best we can in the short time we are here? Get 3 different people in a room together, mention God and an argument will break out, is that right? How can it be? You say you have seen spirits, where, when, what of? Are you really sure, or did you imagine it or think you saw something, the brain is a powerful entity in itself and can play tricks. Its easier to be tricked if you want as well, you become more open to suggestion. If enough people say they have seen spirits or ghosts or apparitions, and say it often enough then people will eventually believe them. Doesnt make it true. Where is the proof? If there is a God why isnt he here now, dont mention faith, that is a word made up by charlatans and the church, where is God in you? Look inside yourself, when does God truly answer you?. True religion comes from within and it is not an entity it is a way of life, how we treat others, how we conduct ourselves in our daily life, how we love and care not just for our loved ones but for all things on and including the planet. That is a tall request for any one individual, but it is something we can only do ourselves with "enthusiasm" (the god within).

Live in peace and harmony, eradicate poverty, famine and illness. Yes, if you live in Cuckoo Land.

I imagine that this Q is a "lame anti-religious it's that time of the month to bash the believers" question. Nevertheless I would add that early man included the moon, sun, stars, wind, rain, animals, cow pats and bits of trees (probably) as deities. Are all these myths and ballony too?

Sure lets just smirk at the tree huggers and sun worshippers dancing around stonehenge (or laying on a beach on the Costa del Sol of course) but those people who like to read religious text and believe in something be it Jesus, Allah, Rah, Jehovah etc, jeepers they must be bonkers mustn't they.

Thanks for the correction, henneth. Marx of course said that "religion is the opiate for the masses" Or something similar.

As we become more intelligent, we are bound to start questioning the very things that our ancestors have built before us, isn't that just human nature evolving??

I, personally, believe there is nothing more to this earth. What makes us so special that we should be taken to some after life??

Religion, itself, is not a bad thing. It's is the nutters out there that exploit it for holy wars!! Who, in their right mind, can blow themself up on the promise that 70 virgins will be waiting for them!!

I seem to have stirred up some deep emotions on this very sensitive question. I am pleased to read so many variants and different points of view, some I agree with, others not.

I agree that you should not have to spend your life praying to a fictional being just because society believes this to be the 'proper' thing to do, however I would like to think that when I die I maybe life will go on in another plain, if not then at least I havent wasted my life praying.

To Diandra76. I do not agree with what you said about religion not being a bad thing, and thats its just the nutters out there. With out the religion there in the first place the nutters wouldnt be able to follow it. Could a heroin addict be an addict with out the drug? NO. Therefore a religous preacher can not preach without his/her beliefs in there chosen lie.

Thanks to all for participating. :)

I reckon Bigfoot is a bigger myth than jesus. Jsesus was only 5'8".

I live by the car bumper sticker I once saw ~ 'I don't mind God, it's his fans I can't stand!'

That says it all for me.

Was Jesus a Jesus freak?

Oh my NOODLES! There is something out there after all. Thanks agnabeya for showing me the light, now I have something to beleive in.
There is one thing that even YOU know is true. YOU will eventually grow old and die. Given the chance, I am sure you would like to live on. And there is only ONE power that can do this for you. Almighty God. If you ever read the Bible, you would know that death for man was NOT in God's original plan for us. It is a consequence of us disobeying. Genesis 2; 16,17 " 16 And Jehovah God also laid this command upon the man: From every tree of the garden you may eat to satisfaction. 17 But as for the tree of the knowledge of good and bad you must not eat from it, for in the day you eat from it you will positively die.
