Operation Crossbow?

I never watch BBC2 during the day, but for some reason switched to 2 at 2.00 today and became engrossed in the last hour of a WW2 film called Operation Crossbow. It made me feel very patriotic. At the end the actor playing Churchill said lines that brought tears to my eyes. That feeling has stayed with me all day and I despair of the way we have let our great Country be abused, when so many people went through so much for our freedom.

Was this film based on actual events as some of the footage was real?

Hi cherrybomb, googled the film title, and from what I can see,it was based on fact! Am always interested in ww2 stuff, cos my father was in the RAF,and also other members of the family.
If I remember right, in reality the main character was an East End cat burglar chosen for the mission because of his ability to go undetected. I think he later became famous as the burglar that stole a million pounds worth of Sophia Loren's jewellery while she in England filming The Millionairess with Peter Sellers.
