Seems clear to me that we were meant to live in a world where we are all different.  Using dogs as a simile, once one gets away from "purebreds", which are much more beset with afflictions (in-breeding), most all dogs are highly distinct from each other.  In the case of humans, since we don't generally put a lot of stock in "purebred" humans, we have a great diversity, making us stronger, as a species.  Man's close relatives, apes, within a given species (chimps, gorillas, etc.), show very little relative physical distinction from one another.  Same holds true for coyotes, in the canine group, just like domesticated dogs.  Amazing thing is that coyotes continue to expand their range as chimps and gorillas creep closer to extinction.....

Still, diversity is the key to successful continuation of a species.

Freemasons are not a secret organisation, they are an organisation with secrets.
Following on from Artemis' answer, it is difficult to see why people in high profile jobs should be denied membership.  I know as many Freemasons who are not in high profile jobs.  (I am not one myself and have no interest in joining).

I went to an anniversary party at a Masonic Hall once.

it's just a glorified social club. I'm sure there's no more favours done between masons than in any other group.

A lot of high-profile politicians, judges etc, went to the same schools/university colleges. So what?

There is a phrase which states "a mason will never hang" which I take to mean he will have friends in high enough places to prvent this.
