Hi
I am looking to trace my birth brother his name was Peter and he was born in march 1980 i have his birth certificate and adopted in Reading Berkshire in 1984, by his foster parents. I have tried the local area SW adoption team to no avail, any ideas would be great, i don't want to pay lots of money to trace him some of the quotes are astronomical and i simply cant afford them. I dont have his adopted surname, and not sure if his first name was changed, at 2 or 4 i am not sure why they would change his first name...? I could be wrong any pointers would be great
Thanks

UK people finder would be my first choice opsmerlin.
It worked wonders for me in finding some one. They got in touch!!!!
ukpeoplefinder. All one word on google.
He'll be in his early 30s now, he'll know he is adopted and he should by rights know his birth name and birth mother's name. I suggest you begin by writing to the local paper in Reading and appealing for information . He may not live in the area now but you need to start somewhere. A better option may be to contact BBC Radio Berkshire and ask if they have any community based programmes that you could use to make an appeal for help .

As a blood relative you have a legal right as an adult to register with the GRO to be informed if he also regsiters, and vice versa for him, see here:

Thanks very much guys, i have registered with NORCAP and have just sent the GRO application away, thanks so much.
I don't know if they are making another series but what about Long Lost Family, the ITV programme hosted by Nicky Campbell and Davina McCall. They seem to have had great success in locating people in the most difficult of cirumstances.
