Im opening another can of worms arent i hahahahaha

But i suppose this subject just opens so many doors ...and i am from an irish catholic background therefore it interests me x
It's a very fine line between "Freedom fighter" and "Terrorist".
Depends on your "Politics"
:-)

This thread has got me remembering bits and pieces particularly one of my mothers old uncles. As you my gather from my user name I've got Irish connections and this old boy was very proud that he'd served in what he called the "Proper IRA" and that he had been wounded during the Easter Rising and he was quite scathing in his opinion of some of the modern day IRA, as he said in his day did some things he wasn't too proud off but at least they'd stood up and faced the army like proper soldiers.

Really ummm. But i will have to look up old and new....

But you said you were brought up sympathazing...but now as an adult you dont yeah? (not judging...i cant ...i have no clue) haha ...x
I should preface this answer with:
My father was a British soldier and I was born in Holywood.
I remember the bombing campaigns on the British mainland in the 70's and the fact that it was no longer safe for a soldier to wear his uniform outside the barracks.
Having said that, the Irish Republican Army were once a legitimate fighting force and the British did treat them like s$%t.

Her's a song to get you started then tink one of the most famous of the old rebel songs

now I'm off to bed where I should have been an hour ago. Best of luck with your project and I look forward to further posts on the subject as your research progrsses
Sorry about that tink it was a hang up from mamyas thread. In case it doesn't come through this time it's a song called Kevin Barry and as I said it'd a very famous rebel song
LOL, paddy. I was trying to figure out if you were implying some sort of nexus between the provos and Brazilian gauchos... ;-)
> Thanks mark you always do go out your way to help me!!

Anyone who is interested in broadening their mind and furthering their education will always get my full support, Tinks... :-)
Does that include me, Mark? :-)

I really enjoyed that paddy thank u x
Songs, in my opinion, are a particularly poor way to learn about most things. They are terrific for stirring the blood and getting the feet tapping but no more.

It's of interest, but perhaps no more than that, to note that the IRA post-dates the Easter rising of 1916.
I don't think Tinks is planning on becoming an expert on the subject...
