I've heard of the gog and magog mentioned in both islamic and christian writing. Can anyone enlighten me further to what they are, where they come from according to both Islam and Christianity.  I've also read in the islamic tradition dhul-qarnan (some say he was alexander the great) mentioned as saving a people from the gog and magog by building an iron gate, which will one day collapse and release them.  Churchill is said to have referred to them in a speech.

Here are the Christian, Islamic and British Gog and Magog

... sorry, Christian is not the correct adjective since the story is obviously Old Testament and so is the basis of writings of other religions.

One of the earliest references to Magog was by Hesiod, "the father of Greek didactic poetry" who identified magog with the Scythians and southern Russia in the 7th century B.C.  Hesiod was a contemporary of Ezekiel.

The Great Wall of China, in an 8th century reference, was called: Sud Yagog et Magog "The Rampart of Gog and Magog."

The Moslems refer to Gog and Magog as Vadjudj wa madjudj in the Koran.

On November the 9th 1951, Winston Churchill made a speech at the Lord Mayor of London's Banquet at the Guildhall, marking the occasion of the restoration of the effigies of Gog and Magog to their traditional places of honour in the west end of the Guildhall in the City of London. They had been removed during the Blitz to prevent them from being damaged. Earlier figures had been destroyed in the Great Fire of London in 1666. The present pair were carved by Richard Saunders in 1708.

"It seems that they (i.e. Gog and Magog) represent none too badly the present state of world politics. World politics, like the history of Gog and Magog, are very confused and much disputed. Still, I think there is room for both of them. On the one side is Gog, and on the other is Magog. But be careful, my Lord Mayor, when you put them back, to keep them from colliding with each other; for if that happens, both Gog and Magog would be smashed to pieces and we should all have to begin all over again  and begin from the bottom of the pit." (Source: The Times, London, for 10 November 1951)

Apparently Gog and Magog are trouble makers which is why there trapped behind some wall thing and one day they'll get out and cause trouble and mayhem in the world or something like that.

For a detailed Islamic viewpoint about Gog and Magog, please download and read the book about this subject in the given URL. For a quick overview you can also watch the documentary based on this book available at http://www.youtube.co...4717AA5/0/7kc7d5ejae4

In short, the book has concluded that Gog and Magog have long been released, during the time of the Prophet Muhammad (SAW). Currently Gog are in control of the Anglo-American-Israeli Alliance, the so-called Judeo-Christian alliance while Magog is in control of Russia.
