Hi has anyone viewed the records on the Gov. Death records uk .com . I looked this up but it seemed too good to be true as for the price of 28.89 you appear to get Lifetime unlimited search pass to all the records of death and information on marriage, newspaper entries etc. Any info would be appreciated.

I have not used it.

I see thay have this disclaimer

"This website is not affiliated with the United Kingdom Government or any other government agency. Our trademark GovDeathRecords and symbols simply mean publicly available records & resources."

I would question why they have "gov" in their domain name.

Thanks Rollo I think it could be a bit questionable so I will give it a miss unless any one else knows different !!!!!!
The registeration of deaths is the responsibility of the local registrar in each district, a national alphabetical index is compiled every quarter, the index is then sold to various research bodies to enable access by the public. In some libraries this is free to search in person, on websites there is usually a subscription fee.
This web address you have posted is not a gov.uk official address, as the gov comes before the .com, it is probably an index to sources that have been bought from other defunct sites

Thanks Dot I knew you would come up with an answer ! So not for me it seems.
Why dont you try ancestry.co.uk and search their free bmd records.
just to clarify oxy, the thread above yours that has now been removed because of advertising, was posted by (I assume) a host of the site that steers people into spending money for nothing, it had the Gov.Death records amongst the links it includes on the home page, simply a money making business and in no way helpful to people actually wanting to carry out genuine research.

Thanks diggerman I do actually subscribe to ancestry.co.uk but thought this site may seem cheaper. Not much good though if it is not genuine.

Thanks dot for your added comments.
