Not a genealogy question but not sure where else to post it.
Can anyone give me any advice, I'm currently trying to trace the history of the house where I work. I've traced it as far as 1878 but prior to that the house wasn't numbered it had a name. I'm struggling to trace the title deeds as the building is now joint owned by the NHS and a housing association. Can anyone help me out?

you need to contact your local county record office and ask if any old deeds have been deposited
I've been researching my Mum's house and I came across a really useful item called a Tithe Map. It was dated 1849 and came with an index stating who occupied property and who owned it. Try asking the local record office if they've got one for the relevant area for your house. Hope this helps.

Thankyou both for your help, I'll let you know how i get on.
there are indeed tithe maps for the whole country and these ar in the county record office, you can only trace them though so take sheets of tracing paper and pencils. Also, there were soime early town directories published in the early to mis 1800s these will also be in the CRO.
If it is a very old property, you could look at the Hearth Tax records but these are very fragmented. The other source you might try are the Land Tax Assessments 1790 to about 1820, most county record offices will have transcripts.
