...what caused his death? Everyone very shocked and upset in Ireland of course, but I haven't seen or heard anyone asking what caused his death. It's as though everyone is reluctant to talk about the cause. Does anyone know? I've googled it but found nowt. TIA.

It's early days. I think they are waiting for the post mortem.

///The cause of death was unknown last night but it is thought that the French judiciary police may request a post-mortem examination, which could last up to seven days, after which the remains are released to the family for burial///
Telegraph.
With the sparse data provided......sudden death in a fit 40 year old, one would suggest:

a) Heart attack
b) Stroke ( aneurysm)
c Self inflicted.

In that order.......based on the information provided.

'Axel' RIP

Was just about to read his book ...
I fail to appreciate that a Fit Person would have a heart attack or be subjected to a stroke. But of course I am Not a Medically qualified person and none of us know if A F had a medical condition. Consequently anything which one says at this stage is mere speculation.

Hans.

A very interesting article Margo. However, the point which I am making is that a Fit Person Does Not Suddenly Die. I will accept that people who may appear fit can suddenly depart this life but, I would argue, they were Not Fit prior to their death; unless they hastened their departure or met with an unfortunate accident or deliberate action by another person or persons.

Hans.
Apparently fit young people do indeed suddenly die, but as said I shan't speculate either.

RIP Anthony.
Hans... my friends 10 year old son died on the football pitch. It happens.
It's seems to happen to a lot of sportspeople. The post-mortem will hopefully give the family the answer.
@ummmm..... I have known of a number of people who have died suddenly, but a reason as invariably been given. What was given as the reason for the son of your friend.?

Hans.
HansUrbanker....depends upon how you define "fit."
Clearly if one drops down dead, then there must have been an underlying cause, which had persisted without causing symptoms and hence one would call the person "fit" or better still,"apparently fit."
If you can run the 100yds in 9.7 or play international sport...then one clearly could be regarded as "fit", but then drop down dead on the field with a hitherto undiagnosed Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy.

I think that we both know what the "ordinary person" means when they describe someone as "fit."
Heart failure.
Thanks ummmm for your reply. I think Sqad will agree with me that the lad was "apparently fit." Must have been very distressing for the young boy's parents.

Hans.
