How do I find the citation of a WW1 officer awarded the MC ?

All I have is a name; no service number, regiment, dates etc.

Cheers.

This might be a good place to start:
http://www.forces-war-records.co.uk/records.asp

Like many so-called 'free' sites you'll probably find that the initial information available is limited but it only cost £8.95 for 4 weeks full access anyway, so it shouldn't break the bank.
Ou could try the London Gazette.
Your luck may depend on how the MC was awarded. If it is a New Year's or Birthdat award there will be no citation. If as the result of action it may not have a public citation either.
You can search the Ancestry war records with just a name ................ if you don't have an ancestry account, I am happy to look for you if you provide the name x
