Can this be the same party who are always attacking the EDL for their stance against Islam?
Wait a minute pro-Islam, women's rights???????????????
I am getting rather confused, anyone shed any light on the contradiction.
Perhaps it would be better for them to attack their own 'Women's Rights Policy' ?

The way they handled these allegations of rape against a senior member of the party is disgraceful. As I understand it, this same individual has been accused more than once. I also thought I had read that he actually sat on the panel that was convened to examine this case!
The alleged victims have been poorly served by the SWPs refusal to recognise the police and judiciary, and may very well have aided a serial rapist to evade proper justice.
Everything I hear points to their irrelevance, and they are suffering an exodus of members; in short, they are imploding. Their political vision is rooted firmly in the labour intensive heavily industrialised past, as is their language, and they seem incapable of recognising the changes in the economic, industrial and cultural climate, much less adapting to it.
They should certainly sort out their attitude towards women. Several women members have claimed that the SWP is a dangerous environment for women, and based upon their handling of these rape allegations, you can see why.
As with anyone, a political party is capable of multi-tasking. They can operate a policy of standing up to the EDL as well as reforming their attitudes towards women.
I think the SWP of Citizen Smith and Dave Spart are long gone....

Because an organisation is anti racists does not mean it is pro-Islam.
They are Leninists and Marxists so they are not pro any religion.
They do not oppose the EDL for their stance against Islam, they oppose the EDL because they are mainly a bunch of racist thugs.
There is probably nothing wrong with the SWPs womens policies though I don't know what they are (and I doubt you do). Most organisations have a tendency to cover up their wrong doing. This incident shows the SWP are exactly the same.
There is no contradiction, that is why you are confused.

Whoops it looks as if I have dared to criticise Gromit's beloved 'Left'.
/// Because an organisation is anti racists does not mean it is pro-Islam. ///
Know that for certain do you, I was under the impression that the EDL stood against the rise of Islam in this country, and seeing that they have members from other races, and the fact that Islam is not a race, I fail to see how they can be racist.

The SWP are no more a true representation of the mainstream political left than the EDL are a true representation of the mainstream political right.
I think the EDL cross the line from being anti-Islamic to being Islamophobic. Certainly the official EDL line might veer away from being racist, but the membership has strong links with BNP and Stormfront.

Very well put.
My politics veer to the left, but I always (even back in the 80s when I was becoming politically aware) though that the SWP were a bit of a joke.

It is totally ultra vires for a committee of a political party to set up an enquiry into rape. It is a matter for police alone.
"She was persuaded by a party official to take her allegations to the disputes committee, the mechanism for resolving routine grievances". Since when was rape a routine grievance ?
Rape is a crime, a convicted rapist must be jailed, not suspended from a party for two years. This party and its committee are turning rape into a sick joke.
