I have a married couple Thomas Litherland b1829 Rothwell Leeds a photographer, married to Ann Robson (b1830 d1883) in Hunslet Leeds abt 1849. But I cannot find his father and mother. I have nowhere to put him.

My Gt x4 Grandfather George born 1754 wife Mary, and the Gt x3 born 1784 called George also married to Mary, He had a son George b1808. But I can't find him. Most of the family at that time was born in Tamworth and came to live in Leeds but don't know when. Possibly Thomas's father's name is George Litherland (of 1808?) Can anyone help please.

That's good dotty thank you, I couldn't find anything, I had Thomas as a photographer in Rothwell. I really wanted to find his father and link him to someone but I only have his father's name George not sure which George he is, but thanks for that.
on the 1841 there is a george leatherland living in kirkgate leeds, a fitter, age 55 ( ages were rounded down to lower 5 which means this george could be between 55 and 59.) he has no apparent family with him and he was not born in yorkshire (N under whether born in county) there is a hannah learoyd (sic) aged 35 at the same household, with sons thomas, aged 14, john aged 12 and george aged 1, could the thomas aged 14 in 1841 be thomas litherland marrying in 1849?
ooooooo hannah litherland learoyd married in leeds 1 jan 1903 father's name george litherland learoyd
baptism at leeds st peter, 25 nov 1843, frederick george litherland son of hannah learoyd spinster born 18 july 1843
IN 1851 Frederick and his brother george were lodging with another family, in rothwell. on frederick's marriage in rothwell in 1864 his father is george learoyd, mechanic.......

Oh that was good thinking dotty. I've just been looking on findmypast which is a waste of time that site is I can't find anything on there. I think I did see a George in one of the Censuses in Kirkgate I thought it must be a lodging house. I took that to be my Gt x3 Grandfather George b 1784 who was married to Mary Capewell in 1805 and his son George was born in 1808 in Tamworth. Is it possible he came to Leeds in about 1830 or so from Tamworth and had a son called George born in Leeds? But Thomas was 22 when he married so it could be this one. I didn't have a wife for George b1808.

I'm getting confused there dotty. It looks as though he is the one, do you think he became Learoyd? When was Frederick George born? You've given his dob same as his mothers. I haven't seen a brother George but I have found Joseph Litherland married to Elizabeth Willer at Rothwell in 1855, possibly his bro but don;t know how old he was.
Must go to bed losing my grip. I'll look in tomorrow. Thanks again dotty.
i think that hannah learoyd was originally hannah higgins and married abraham learoyd and had a couple of sons with him and then he died and she started having children with george litherland, george frederick litherland learoyd was baptised in 1844 but born in 1843, his brother was 2 years younger, i'm tired too, should have gone to bed 2 hours ago! cannot find hannah marrying george and cannot find a death for either as yet.
Question Author
I've been looking at the dates for Hannah Learoyd it looks like my GT grandfather x4 born in 1784 is the one who took up with Hannah Learoyd if what you say at 23.52 is so, and not his son George (b1808). Grandfather was married to Mary Capewell sept 1805. They had five children in Tamworth up to 1814. I can't find out if or when Mary Capewell died. My Gt Gt Gfather John was one of his sons who came to live in Leeds as a cut nailmaker. Thomas would have been born in 1827 being 22 when he married Ann Robson. I wonder if he was a Learoyd or a Litherland.
i think he was a learoyd son of abraham and hannah nee higgins gran, i've found the baptism at rothwell
abraham learoyd married hannah higgins 8 nov 1819 at holy trinity rothwell, Thomas Learoyd was baptised July 2nd 1826 at rothwell, his brother john was baptised 14 july 1828 at rothwell holy trinity,
George Litherland Learoyd was born in 1841 and his birth was registered at leeds Q1 ref 23 350, george married esther frost 17 feb 1867 at oulton st john and his father on the marriage cert is george letherland, blacksmith. (not deceased)
george learoyd litherland was baptised at leeds st peter 26 july 1841 and born 28 april 1841 and his parents are george and ann litherland, on the baptism entry the names 'george learoyd' are written in the christian name column of the baptism register. George the father has the occuoation 'smith' and the address is Bowman Lane.
george was registered as litherland and learoyd in the civil registration index.

What a confusing family. I would never have been able to sort that out myself. I've gone back to the idea of son George of 1808 was the father of George learoyd litherland he would have been 33 when he was born, whereas Grandad George b1857 would have been 57, but he might have been an old goat who can tell? And the Thomas of my original search is not really a Litherland after all. Thank you dotty.
Question Author
Grandad George b 1754
Question Author
What am I saying 1784 he would have been 57. Now it's a toss-up because of your find of the Census showing he was around 55 in 1841 when he lived in Kirkgate Leeds. Oh dear time for bed. Thanks again
mmm, the younger son, Frederick is somehow connected to a benjamin brook, one tree on ancestry is connecting frederick george litherland learoyd with this benjamin brook and it looks unusual, almost like an adoption, but it's not, frederick was lodging in rothwell with older brother george, i think their mother was dead by 1851 and there is no trace of george litherland living in yorkshire. the family they were living with were george and elizabeth sefton in rothwell, elizabeth's maiden name was HIGGINS and so i guess that proves that Hannah, the boy's mother, was Hannah HIGGINS who married abraham learoyd! cool
