what sega RPG game is this?

I used to play this game as a kid, it was a sega genesis/megadrive RPG. I can remember there being mythril weapons and the main character reminded me of a viking - like horned hat with an axe...and possibly red hair?

You had to upgrade the weapons and armour as you went on etc. I've tried games like shining force/soleil and they look incredibly similar but its not the one. Any ideas?
