You can do this yourself.

Unscrew the casing and find the laser. Give the laser two scratches using a screwdriver. Put the casing back on and you are good to go.

Nintendo will try to "brick" your Wii if it connects to the internet for an updateand it is chipped, and its rumored that newer games will require these updates to work, making you have to contact the update site.
