I was reminiscing to my boys about fireworks. They both hate them and every year I get excited. Silly old me!.

When I was younger, we use to make guys and beg for pennies.
We lived on a council estate and groups of us, use to make huge bonfires, only for the fire brigade to come tearing round and put them out.

In my naughtier days, I used to put bangers through the neighbours letterboxes and run away!!!

I have hated fireworks ever since November 1987. I was walking down the road with my then 2 month old daughter in her pram when two boys who were throwing fireworks around threw one at me,it landed in the pram and went off in my daughters face causing burns and partial deafness.
i love fireworks here in the reef the sopanish do too

they love barca and let rockets off everytime they score a goal

new year and xmas is good too
Daffy, you poor things! No wonder you hate them.

I like fireworks at proper displays, at the proper times of year. Guy Fawkes, Diwali, Navratri and that's all it should be.

I'm actually a bit disgusted with Tesco at the moment. They promote themselves as a green/family/community orientated business, yet the first thing you see when you walk in there at the moment is a firework counter. Just seems totally irresponsible to me. Even though they have strict sale regulations, I'm not sure they should be encouraging backyard firework displays like this.
Before the incident with my daughter I used to love fireworks. I don't mind watching them from indoors nowadays but hate going out at this time of year. The incident I spoke about happened in Leicester near to the train station so luckily there was a lot of help around for my daughter.
Leicester does have some great displays, especially at Diwali time.
I love fireworks but am not keen on seeing them anywhere but an official organised display. My son loves whizz bangs and will be going to a company display next week although we are also at friends for a small display on Friday. However the youngsters will be watching from indoors

They started being set off here around 3 weeks ago, day and night and we've just seen a notice in paper of a 'firework warehouse' in town selling huge bangers very very cheaply.

I have a feeling the fire crews will be very busy this year around here :(
I think they can be quite pretty but I don't like loud noises (except my music) so not particularly I'm afraid.

Daffy, I am sorry to hear about your daughter.
I hope she is ok now.
Every year there are many injuries caused by fireworks and I must admit, I should have known better in my younger days.
My daughter still has the partial deafness funnygirl but luckily the burns healed really well, you can only see the scars now when she gets a tan as that is the only part of her face that doesn't tan. It could have been much worse.
After last years fireworks I've total changed my opinion especially the multi shot ones.
As with all fire works if they fall over there dangerous but multi shots are worse as if they fall over you can have up to 100 firing at you.
This is what happened if it wasn't for someone saying pull the door too as it was cold my nephew would of been seriously injured..
Even today the glass in the door is badly indented were the firework hit and burnt the glass...
the kids on the estate I used to live on sound exactly like you used to be funnygirl, they dont seem to realise how their behaviour affects everyone. It makes me wonder if they have parents that are actually bothered about the damage and misery that they cause to the people around them.

I would be ashamed to admit to putting bangers in peoples letterboxes...
I dont like fireworks, its normally me and the cat diving behind the couch every time a cracker goes off lol
I love an organised firework display and I'm all for them, but I think the fireworks that are available in the shops these days are dangerous in the wrong hands. It's no good buying those 100 shot fireworks that are of display standard if your garden is the size of a postage stamp. It's just asking for trouble.

My sister has a largish garden and a few years back she and her husband bought loads of fireworks for a party. Among them they had bought one of those display in a box type fireworks with something like 250 shots in it. It toppled over as it was nearly finished and fired about 20 shots straight towards the back of the house where everyone was gathered. I was already indoors helping myself to some more mulled wine, I turned round to see what the commotion was all about and there were about 15 people all trying to shove their kids into the house through the back door whilst trying to avoid getting burnt themselves. It was pandemonium and pretty scary. Luckily nobody got hurt but it was more luck than judgement.

On another occasion a neighbour's shed was set alight by a rocket that decided to shoot off sideways instead of skywards. And that was with everything set up safely for letting them off!

Daffy, I am so sorry to hear what happened to you and your daughter. I bet you wanted to strangle the irresponsible little barstewards. I hope they got what was coming to them but I bet they just legged it.
Ive friends as above unfortunately big boys (like fathers)behave reallly badly i keep my children away from the maniacs!
That was awful to read, Daffy - but I LOVE fireworks, all the same.
legend they let fireworks off on the reef everytime someone breaks wind dont they ? lol
