If you mean graphically then yes.
Unfortunately not for the same money.

All the current gen and last gen consoles use GPUs from ATI and Nvidia who are all from the PC world.
PC'S will always out perform games consoles as that is where the technology is developed.

Only problem is if you want a PC that is high spec it will cost 2,500 plus.

For example, I've got an Xbox 360 (I know not as powerful as PS3). I bought ghost recon advanced war fighter, which in full HD looks excellent. My mate has a top spec PC which cost around 2,500 with a HD monitor. I had a quick go on the PC version and it was graphically better & smoother. I didn't think it would be possible (having completed the Xbox version) for the game to look any better.

I prefer playing games with a control pad on my 32 HD TV ,so I prefer games consoles. But some people (with money to burn and single) prefer top end PC's.

Nice if you can afford one.
I prefer PCs simply because I like first person shooters and the GTA games. These games just don't work without a mouse.

I was a fan of Goldeneye on the N64 and then I got to play QuakeWorld on a PC with a mouse. I had real trouble going back to Goldeneye and having to make do with the loss of control you get with the analogue stick compared to the freedom of the mouse.

Some of the missions in GTA3 on my PS2 took me ages particularly the rampages that required accurate shooting. When I got the PC version I could do them without a problem.

I used to feel the same, but the newer pads with the trigger style buttons seem to have sorted this out. Gears of War for example is the best FPS I have played and not once have I have problems with the controls.

As per the original question as others have said the ability to upgrade a PC will always keep it ahead in the technical race but are high cost compared with a console. Having said that you need to realise that both the PS3 and 360 sell for a loss.

Everyone talks about the graphics but how about the processing power? With the PS3 having this new fangled Cell thingy.?
I think the Cell thingy is going to prove a little over rated.
The so called 'Emotion Engine' at the heart of the PS2 was also supposed to be the most powerful thing since the big bang. It wasn't.

Did you see the Motorstorm and Killzone preview movies? They were absolutely amazing, I was drooling. Turns out that they weren't using ingame footage at all. In fact they were just how the game designers envisioned the games turning out when they were done. I think one of them was even running on a Mac.

WoWo, with a mouse I can spin around in the blink of an eye and point at something with ease, I have total control over the speed and accuracy of my movement. I can bounce around like Zebedee on speed and still keep pointing at my target.
You just can't get that level of control with joypads in first person shooters.
I agree that fps games are most at home on pc but ive also gotten used to playing them on a joypad via xbox and 360 and feel fine with them now but am under no illusions that if pc players were allowed in joypad servers,i would get whooped...i dont think a joypad will ever match a kb/mouse combo for speed and accuracy.
Yes easily.

While the PS3 is an impressive console PCs can beat it relatively easily. But the with PCs they are being contantly upgraded while the PS3 stays the same.
I wouldnt say they can beat it relatively easily.I agree they can beat it but at what cost ?
It's still too early to see if the PS3 can live up to the hype, you always here techno words that sound impressive (like cell processor). From what I can tell based on reviews/news the PS3 isn't any better than the Xbox 360 (other than the next gen disc drive).

It's no good having excellent hardware if you don't use it with the software!!
