I can buy any of the old 'forgotten realms' Eye of the Beholder RPGs that were originally on DoS/ floppy discs on CDs for using on windows XP machines?
I have been to a download site and they have the games but I'm not competent enough on the pc to download and use the DOSbox thingy. I managed to get it downloaded and followed the instructions to unzip the games but couldn't get the games to run.

What you need to do is load the command prompt

Start->All Programs->Accessories->Command Prompt

I'd suggest putting your unzipped files into a directory close to the root, such as c:\games to make life easier

then, type into the command prompt

cd\games

This will take you to the correct directory.

If you then type

dir/p

it will give you a page by page list of all the files in that directory. Anything that is EXE, COM or BAT will be runnable.
Simply type in the file name to get it going.

I think i've remembered that right - it's been a long time since I've used DOS
Did the game have graphics or was it purely text based?
There's loads of emulators out there for old computer games (Spectrum, Amstrad, Sega Master System etc and those machines you used to find in pubs in the 80's). Games like Asteroids and the like. Try searching google for 'game emulators' or just the name of the game.

Thanks for your answers guys.
ugly_bob. thanks for the instructions. I will try that and see what happens (it still sounds a bit technical for an IT dunce like me)
deso ~ The game did have graphics and was originally for the Amiga 1200 (I think). My uncle used to play these all the time and I just thought that it would be great to get them and have a go. I'm not sure what to expect from an emulator, does this mean I can download it and just run the games?
Sorry am a bit thick when it comes to this sort of thing - I'm a product of the modern world, and expect everything to just happen by itself. lol
