i noticed when trying to upload tracks from my minidisc on to my computer that open mg won't let you upload tracks unless they were originally taken from the hard drive... does anybody know of any systme mods that i could employ to be able to take other tracks not originally taken from the pc , on to my hard drive??? is there a newer version that i could download or something that would let me take new tracks?

I had the same problem and managed to get the answer from Sony. It appears that the only way they could get past copyright law was to ensure that only the music you own i.e. on your hard drive, could be transferred to a minidisk. I just borrow CD's from friend and download or get tracks on the web to circumvent this. I asked a friend to take a look at the programme [he used to copy!! games]but couldn't do anything with the programme. If you find something let me know
I would also like to know if there's any way to upload songs from the minidisc to the pc, that you didn't originally move from the pc to the minidisc.

hey it's me again...i've found a way to upload tracks onto your computer...you'll need different software to open mg...but it shouldn't matter. firstly, you need to see if your soundcrad came bundled with any recording software, it should, most do...if you haven't installed this...do so. then you need a lead which is basically two headphone jacks on the wire , i couldn't tell you the technical term...(this is if your sound card only has a line in (do NOT use the mic in)) if your sound card has the better connections of phono....then you'll need a phono to line in cable... once you've hooked everything up...just use the sound cards software to record from your minidisc on to the hard drive...it will take longer because it's one-to-one recording process, but it's better than not being able to do it all...i hope this helps a few people, that is until sony realises the error of it's ways...in the meantime...try it, it worked for me!
the newest version of windows media player has a portable device tab on the left hand side of the window that should work.
Thanks barnetboy that's the long way, if you want to download 5 hours of music it gets quite boring as well. What we need is something that will extract the files from the disc. There must be a way as it's really just an updated floppy but I've yet to find it, the problem might be the file type that it uses.
