Why Are Grown Men Still Playing Video Games Away From Their Families?

I know quite a few supposedly mature men who regularly lock themselves away with their headphones on in another world, playing these games for hours by themselves, even though they have a wife/partner and children who are normally in another room watching TV. Isn't this rather selfish and immature and don't these men need to grow up?

Most grown men I know that play these games do it when they are home alone, or when the kids are in bed. Other men may have teenage children, therefore they will no doubt be doing their own thing anyway.
To be honest, I would rather my husband/boyfriend/whatever be "locked in a room" playing video games than down the pub pissing money up against the wall.
There's no harm, so what's the problem?

My other half sits in the lounge and plays games (xbox), I sit in the dining room and play games (PC), our son sits in the living room at his PC and plays games. We converse as normal with each other.

What about the man who goes off of Friday evenings for a game of 5-a-side and a pint afterwards and leaves the poor wife and kids behind? Or the husband/father who goes and plays a round of golf once a week? Are they selfish too?

Should we stop having hobbies and pasttimes because we are married and have children, unless they are involved too?

what i find more irritating is those people who sit and tx or phone people when you are having dinner. If you go to an inordinate amount of time to prepare a nice meal, why do some think it ok to chat, tx through it.
By the way was it any different in your dads day, he played with the sons train set, who generally didn't get a look in.

Adult gamers, the food purchasing habits of people at christmas, the potential for debt incurred over christmas,a whinge about why it is you are not allowed to insult people based upon their origins, the sinister conspiracy surrounding self-service checkouts in supermarkets,your allegations about people putting up christmas decorations too early,safety precautions and incident investigators needing to close off roads following serious accidents, people not eating breakfast!, your assertion that SoViles victims are only in it for the compo,and your frankly rather bizarre misunderstanding of nature,science, rain and clouds.

The milk of human kindness and the capacity for tolerance seem to have escaped you entirely dave, as does your ability to enjoy the festive fun and holiday spirit of christmas.....

Mrs Booldawg lets me play video games only if there is nothing on TV that she wants to watch.

I've been know to get up at 4-5am to get a few hours in before work as it effects no-one else. TBH I cant see the difference between that and sitting in silence watching a tv programme that I have no interest in.

My husband and I watch TV in two separate rooms...why...because we have dofferent tastes...we don`t complain about it...we would if either one of us had to watch something we have no interest in.

A bit of space never went a amiss.

Why are you so bothered about what other people do with there lives? If it has no impact on you, and by and large I can't see how many of behaviours you object to would, why get so het up about it. Live and let live.
