Slow Roast Lamb Shank

A slow roasted lamb shank is gorgeous, the meat becomes wonderfully tender. It melts in your mouth and falls of the bone beautifully. Lamb shank is a wonderful cut of meat, meat of the bone is full of rich flavours and it is also cheap.

This is a perfect meal if you want to show off, lamb shank looks fantastic. Serve on top of a pile of creamy mash potatoes and your guests will be very impressed. A rustic, hearty, filling meal that looks spectacular smells great and taste even better.

Ingredients

  • 4 large lamb shanks
  • Plain flour
  • Butter
  • Olive oil
  • 2 red onions thinly sliced
  • 2 garlic cloves, crushed
  • 100ml balsamic vinegar
  • 500ml red wine
  • 2 tbsp puree
  • Sprig of rosemary

Method

  1. Preheat the oven to 150C. Sprinkle the lamb shanks with flour and seasoning.
  2. Heat olive oil and butter in an oven proof dish with a tight lid. Lightly brown the onions in the dish, when brown remove from dish with a slotted spoon.
  3. Brown the lamb shanks in the dish then add all the other ingredients to the dish, roast for at least 2 hours until meat is almost falling off of the bone.
