Macaroni And Cheese

Macaroni and cheese is a childhood favourite, pasta baked in a cheese sauce is one of the most comforting foods throughout childhood.

It is an ideal meal, perfect for a busy family, or a student craving a home cooked meal. Macaroni and cheese is quick and simple, so you can always find time to cook and if you make a large batch of macaroni and cheese it will still taste great as leftovers, perfect for tomorrow’s lunch.

Ingredients

  • 250g macaroni pasta
  • 45g butter
  • 40g plain flour
  • 600ml milk
  • 250g grated cheddar cheese

Method

  1. Cook the macaroni according to instructions on the packet.
  2. In a large saucepan melt the butter and add in the flour, mix well. 
  3. Gradually whisk in the milk, a little at a time until it becomes a smooth sauce, it should take about 10 minutes. Remove sauce from the heat and mix 2/3 of the grated cheese in.
  4. Add the macaroni to the sauce and mix well.
  5. Then pour the macaroni in to an oven dish, sprinkle the remaining cheese on top and cook under a hot grill until cheese is melted and bubbling.
