I remember we had carmel shortcake and runny custard - if thats any help!
We used to have Gypsy Tart. That was lovely.
Don't know if i was just deprived but for our xams dinner at school we used to get some artic roll and ice cream. I loved it and still do. Another favourite was any type of a crumble and custard or custard with something like a shortbread biscuit. The good old days.
steamed chocolate sponge and peppermint custard
Australian crunch (sort of biscuit cake) again was served with strawberry or peppermint custard
Manchester tart (pastry filled tart - bottom of pastry lined with sliced banana, then layer of jam, then tick custard and topped off with a sprinkle of coconut) all served thick and cold - yummy!!!

now i am hungry!!!
curried eggs (hardboiled eggs halved with curry sauce poured over)
rice pudding and jam or golden syrup
jam tart and custard
treacle tart and custard
treacle or jam sponge
tapioca with either brown sugar or jam in the middle!! Yuck!
It's got to be sponge (any type) and custard. I remember Gypsy Tart (aka Butterscotch Tart). The main aim with that was not to get the corner bits with the thick pastry! Happy days.
Fish pie with grey mashed potatoes
Grey Mince with Grey mashed potatoes
Sausages (hard and overcooked served with Grey mashed potatoes
Overcooked wet cabbage
Semolina (Frog Spawn)
All the things Woofgang mentions

All the above reasons for taking a packed lunch.

I hope you are not actually serving 60's school meals at the reunion ;o)

Lol @ Lofty - Frog spawn!
we called tapioca frog spawn lol

I hated school meals cos they were made at the high school then brought down to middle/infants school so they were always cold. Only thing I can remember enjoying was spam in batter and spotted dick with chocolate custard.
I could never bring myself to even taste it tiggerblue! And that's what we all called it!!

Come to think of it , it was Tapioca we called frog spawn. Semolina was not quite as revolting.

I liked the semolina pudding lottie but only because they gave us a massive rusk to dip in :)
Oh yes, pixi, spam in batter - lovely (not)

To be honest I don't think our school meals had any more nutritious value than some of the junk food they say is served in schools nowadays.

Every vegetable served seemed to have been cooked for at least 24hrs and as for all those stodgy puddings with custard. I still hate them now. I don't remember having any fresh fruit either. And how did they manage to turn the mashed potatoes grey.

Fond memories.
I don't mind Tapioca, in fact I love most food. The only thing I couldn't stand in school was the chips. I don't know what oil they used to cook them in but it was disgusting and left a nasty taste in my mouth. And they used to go all soggy as well.
Oh yes we had soggy chips too............... nothing better than cold soggy chips with your spam fritters!
Spam fritters! Yuk. Can't stand anything in batter other than fish.
jam sponge with pink custard.
cone shaped sponge coated in jam and coconut with custard.
milk jelly.
meat suet pudding made with mince.
mince and gravy with mashed potato.
chocolate sponge with chocolate custard.
artic roll.

Thank you all for your replies much appreciated
Beef cobblers and rhubarb cobblers.
Grated carrots, diced beetroot and halved hard boiled eggs with a green ring around the yolk.
Chocolate sponge with chocolate custard.
Spotted Dick was a favourite of ours. I remember also having this concoction where raspberry blancmange was whipped up with raspberry jelly - that was lovely.

One thing that I hated, but my friends loved, was chocolate tart - a pastry base filled with some sort of chocolate paste.

For mains, one of my favourites was cheese and potatoe pie - cheesy mash on a pastry case. They served it up with tinned tomatoes.
