leeks are brillient as are parsnips, turnips, squash, pumpkin, courgetts, apple (good with pork).

more importantly - dumplings !!!
i put leeks in fact any veh/beans i have usually go in

the more you put in, the more flavour you get out, so anything and everything can go in a stew. tinned tomatoes are good too. i would agree about the red cabbage though, it does make things look purple.
I once tried adding a housebrick, 4oz of bumfluff and a hairnet to a stew once. It wasn't very nice. The brick was tough, the hairnet stringy and the bumfluff turned to nothing!
ha ha bongo, got to watch though the pork is already cooked could turn into mush!
A tsp of sage !
a bit of brown sauce mixed in while cooking is delish!
Try a tin of beans and worstershire sauce, just a dash though.
