I am about to make meatballs for the first time. I have all the ingredients, but every recipe I have read says you must fry them. Can I not slow cook them in some gravy? Frying gives me terrible indigestion :(

Yes just poach them, I`ve never fried mine as I tend to put them in tomato sauce for spaghetti.

Thanks that's what I thought. Am smothering them in sauce too.
You could also cook them in the oven before putting them in the sauce - that way the outside will get a little bit brown and more tasty. Any way you cook them, the objective is to get the meat done all the way thru - as long as you accomplish that - there is no wrong way:)
Waitrose does great beef meatballs in their fresh counters if you can't be bothered to make them from scratch!
There's a lovely receipe for them which I use all the time in Nigella Lawson's Book called Feast. You make the meatballs really small and then just cook them in the sauce which is finely chopped onion and garlic, a bottle of passatta, half as much water and some milk. Its lovely and really easy.
