I only bake cakes about 2-3 times a year, but always have the same problem. I normally use a Madeira recipe and then add caraway seeds or perhaps coconut. But they always have a crack across the top. What am I doing wrong ?

Sounds like the oven might be a bit hot. Try turning it down a bit, not too much though

Too much sugar and the oven too hot
