My only suggestion is to ask at the customer service desk- they have a database which can tell if an item has been "dropped" or if it is available at another store etc. I did this recently and it was bad news - "item discontinued".
Is it this one, this is the only Mackerel in Olive Oil in a gree tin that I can find(from Sainsburys Online)

If it isn't(or if you want more information as to where you can get it) This:~

Is Sainsburys Customer Service Contact Page.

Good Luck.
Jo,
Sorry Sainburys site doesn't let you lin to a certain page it just puts you back to the home page.

That one seems to work, just scroll down to the Green John West tin.As I say if it's not that then contact Sainsburys Customer Service (I have always found them very helpful),

Thank you but believe it or not he prefers the Sainsburys own brand. I will ask at the CVustomer Service desk, strange if they have discontinued it because it was very popular. Thanks again for your replies...
I would only add tha the In Store Customer Service Desk won't be that helpful.
They can only tell you if they have/are going to have it.
If you ring the contact number they have much more information about stocking of the product, they can also tell you which store near you has stock of it.

Ive sent them an email lets see what their customer service is like now, thanks for your help will let u know if I get any sort of reply.
This can be so frustrating. I once went into a store in search of an item (non-perishable) only to be told, "We don't stock it any more, there's no demand".

All I could think of in reply was, "If there's no demand, how come you have sold out?"
Never got a satisfactory answer.

thtas odd because they were always out of this particular item, it was very popular, all the others are still there mackerel in tomato sauce etc, but not in olive oil. We thought perhaps its something to do with olive oil price going up?
tillyh,
I think you will find that is either a product they cannot source at the price they want to pay,or they have decided it doesn't sell enough and so may have ceased it?
Question Author
Update - Had a call from sainsburys customer service apparently the supplier is having trouble sourcing the mackerel? which sems odd as the other versions are still available in tomato suace etc...should be back on the shelves in the Spring

Thanks for all your replies
Welcome tilly,
Glad you got a result.
Of course all these products come from different suppliers.
