Question Author
Errrm ... yes, probably.

=0/

In some places.

Like Nigella's house.
I'd pronounce it like that too.

How do you say it then Jayne?
in the bednobs household too. Except we would never need to say it cause i hate the stuff
Question Author
Oh. Err, well ...

Just ... "mascarpone", really.

Mass ... kerr ... ponay
mas-car-POH-neh. Not 'maar' and emphasis on the 'poh'
I just say bland white italian stuff...
Barth or Bath ?
Grarss or Grass ?
Question Author
JTH ...

Barth, and Grarss (obviously ... duuh!)

But not Maarrscarpone
Why not ?

Barth & Grarss & Marscapone

Bath & Grass & Mascapone

Seems sensible to me............
Question Author
Bath and grass are English words ... pronounced the English way.

Mascarpone is an Italian word.

Nigella is trying to turn it into a Home Counties word.

It's likw calling the capital of France ... "Paaarris"
As opposed to Paris, or Paree
-- answer removed --
Jayne dear ... slight correction there ...... barth and grarss are English words. ;o)
... but I'm a southern Jessie - or so I'm told. :o)
Question Author
Yes, quite.

We can't just "Home Countyise" foreign words.
Is the capital city of France 'Pariss' or 'Paree' ?
Question Author
Yes, Naomi ... that's my point.

Bath and grass are English words ...

... so they are pronounced "baarth" and "graarss"

Mascarpone, on the other hand, is an Italian word ...

... hence, pronounced ... "mass kerr ponay" ... like an Italian would.
Question Author
** tries to ignore trap laid by JTH **
not 'kerr' :-P
