Hi Claire Bare-yup, putting choccie in a chilli makes it taste lovely! A couple of squares seems to enhance all the flavours. Give it a go!

funny..as I clicked on the question I thought 'I wonder if its about adding chocolate'!

Someone I work with was a chef in the Navy (not sure if thats a good accolade?!) and he says the chocolate neutralises some of the acidity in the tomatoes and also gives it a nice 'sheen'

Booldawg...navy chefs are some of the best in the business-I've worked with a couple of former ones. They are well trained and can feed the 5,000...they often do!!
apologies to all Naval chefs everywhere!
Enjoy your chilli Claire Bare-hope the tooth stays in place! I have just been to the dentist and my mouth is numb-aaaggghh!!
The Mexicans have been doing this for centuries - add two squares of strong, plain chocolate or half a teaspoon of cocoa powder.
Grandad grump (CPOCK) accepts your apology Booldawg - I can vouch for his skill - I uaes to be 6stone - and now I'm not!!
