ive heard that if you slice an onion or leave a saucer of vinegar in the kitchen this will absorb any nasty smells
A saucer of vinegar definitely works, as Keirah says. We have grilled kippers for breakfast every Friday and it never fails, so I don't imagine it will with boiled fish either.
Why boil it when you can steam it. Boiling takes all the flavour away.
If you turn the lid on your pan upside down and put vinegar in it, it will take the smell away.  ( The fishmonger told me this)
I agree, don't boil fish - so many better ways to cook it.  Grill, steam, fry or oven cook in foil.  Probably why it is smelly cooking it that way, fish shouldn't smell "fishy" if it's fresh.  Maybe the problem is with venting your landing.  Out of interest, what kind of fish are you boiling?
the only kind of fish that smells is dead fish (e.g. already dead when caught), freshwater fish (caught from a canal) and fish that is past its sell by date.
