I whisked the egg whites until they were firm peaks but when I added the sugar it dissolved a little so I whisked it, now it won't stiffen at all if there anything i can do, mum won't let me use any more eggs so I can't start again.

It seems with her that you have to get things perfect, which makes trying new things almost impossible as you get shouted at for wasting things if it goes wrong !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

We bought the eggs yesterday.
sorry hit the submit button too soon -you can add cornflour about a teaspoonful, and whisk over a saucepan of hot water - don't let the water touch the bowl though else you'll scramble them. The meringue will be soft and chewy rather than crisp but still perfectly acceptable

we put whipped cream with it, it was nice.

suezy my mum can't cook, she attempts spag bol and shepherds pie btu uses bottles and jars of stuff, her crumbles are ok but the topping never cooks properly so it's like eating dough.
put a stick in it and freeze it, hey presto meringue lollipop.
You could always buy some more eggs and sugar yourself

The shops round here don't sell eggs to under 18s, although I did manage to buy matches the other day.

I know when I worked in a supermarket, we withheld sales at the end of term to 6th formers, at lunch times, they were leaving so they threw eggs and flour around...messy!
is this a permanent ban?

A couple of years ago there were problems with teenagers buying them and egging people and houses, with flour aswell, I don't know if they banned that aswell.
perhaps it's just while schools are finishing exams then.

I think the young lady is making to many excuses! Stop blaming everything on your mum, go out buy eggs and sugar and read and digest the advice given on here!!!!

So, there are other things that young mums can't buy or do till they're 18. They'd have to buy aunt bessies.
