Certainly italian but I believe it is from Tuscany
Tuscany does seem to be the place of attribution for this dish - originally a hearty soup made by the poor - hence the humble ingredients. As to date and place - that's hard because pasta is recorded as having been made in Central Italy from around 500 BC by the Etruscans.
