What 'ale' would be used? I am planning on cooking slow cooked beef in ale but it just says ale.....

Would it be something like stout/Guiness or actual ale?

Cheers

I've tried out a few but much prefer Guinness as it gives such a full flavour.
You can use any real ale.Your local off licence should have a selection. It doesn't have to be stout or guiness.
any good quality real ale is good for this, Guinness also gives a good rich flavour to the casserole

I like Guinness as it gives a good flavour, but recently I bought a pie that had Ruddles ale in it and it was delicious. Whatever you do, do not use any other liquid in it (such as water or a lot of stock) apart from the beer or it will weaken the intensity of the beer flavour in my experience.

Brilliant - thanks folks - think I might try ruddles as the last time I used guiness I thought it was quite bitter (no pun intended!!)
