I have a recipe that calls for 55g sunblushed tomatoes. Well, I don't have those, just a carton of passata. How much do you think I should use?

Thanks

what are you making as sunblush are semidried and passata is liquid, it either won;t be suitable at all or could make a very big difference

ie ifyou were making bread for instance

oh sorry, its for pasta sauce so the difference in consistency won't affect the finished product, but I'm not sure how to guess how much to put in. The recipe usually calls for you to heat and mush up the tomatoes so I figured the passata would be a shortcut. So I guess the question is, what volume would 55g of sun blushed tomatoes take up if cooked and mushed up to semi-liquid
How much does the carton weigh bush?
55g sunblushed tomatoes mushed up would give you about 2 tablespoons if you were very, very lucky. It doesn't sound like a very generous amount to me. Are there other ingredients in this pasta recipe? I s it a one person amount?

Its a two person recipe that also has 200ml red wine in it, amongst other ingredients. I have 500ml passata which is far too much for two people. I'm thinking I might just stick in 150ml and see how I go in the absence of any other estimates!
You could of course look up recipes for pasta sauce and see what quantities of passata are suggested and choose the most suitable for your requirement. Remember that you can freeze any remaining passata unless you will be using it during the following week or so. If I have any left I freeze it as ice cubes.

I chickened out and ordered some sunblush tomatoes in a jar!
