I have Windows XP and a computer that is 7 years old. I have a scanner that is about the same age - a CanoScan NG 70U. I was told that to scan a document to send as an email attachment, J Peg takes up less space, but I do not have this programme on my scanner. I only have the programmes BMP (which causes a problem when deleting), TIFF and, PNG. I also have a programme on the scanner called OCR. I was advised to use a low dpi for image quality, which will help to save space.

Can anybody advise which programme to use that will take up less space when scanning and emailing as an attachment.

Thanks.

BMP is bitmap format and these can be very large.

Jpeg is a better format to use to email to people.

But it is very easy to convert a picture from one format to another.

Included in Windows is a program called Paint, and you can use that to open a BMP (bitmap) file, and then use "Save as" to save it in a differewnt format, like jpeg (JPG).
