am very new to this paying of electricity bills (lucky me) - any idea approximately how much I should be paying per week for a small property with minimal use. Rarely use washing machine, hoover and only have power shower. Hot water comes via the Aga and am very, very careful not to leave things on so its really, fridge, tv, computer and lights. Any help appreciated - thanks

Hi carmalee. Our bill is about 32 a month. There are 2 of us,gas heating,2 beds, electric oven, wash machine, normally use lamps with low energy bulbs. We both work full time but don't go out much at night.Use laptop,TV,I-station and keyboard (husband). We have no freezer, tumble dryer or microwave.Hope that's of use to you.
thats cheap barb, i pay 40 a month just the heating and maybe similar in electricity!!!
That's dear, barb!

I pay 50 per month for gas and electric combined. I'm home all the time, use the tumble drier for all my laundry, have a huge freezer...

there seems to be a fair variation in costings - think on basis I'm not too badly off as mine works out to about 34 a month give or take. Have checked the meter and calculated the price on 17p a unit (which is what is given on the bill) so I guess I can't be far out. Many thanks for taking the trouble to answer - I really appreciate it.
I thought that was pretty reasonable.Ethel, you must have a great deal...mind you,you sound very savvy having read a lot of your answers! My answer didn't even get 1 star!! (Only joking Carmalee!)
I live alone and use very little in a small property. I use the washing machine about twice a week and have an electric shower.

Over the past three and a half years I've paid by DD which went from 20pm at the start, down to 14, and then up to 18pm which it is currently

wasn't around last night so couldn't rate answers after my reply but you are all wonderful and deserve a million stars! Very impressed with 14/18 a month - reckon it's to do with the provider and paying by direct debit. I do all cooking, kettles, drying washing etc on Aga so mine shouldn't be excessive. Have got food for though and will investigate further. Many thanks
I pay 85 a month for my gas and electric but I do have economy 7 so I make sure that all the washing and using the drier is done when I get up at 6am so I have 2 hours to get it all done on cheap eleccy...
One wonders what fuel source drives the Aga?
These things may be wonderful and people swear by them but they are hopelessly inefficient at converting energy (electricity/gas whatever into usable heat). They are on all the time, you see - right through the summer - giving out heat into the room when there is no need for it.

thanks builders mate - my aga is oil but I presume there must be some electricity powering it - also have spot lights which are probably not good - will say I'm very, very careful to switch things off - will probably not make an issue of it with my landlady as have taken this as a short term let until I find a permanent place. Have learnt a lot and been given food for though. Many thanks
