Have started my new diet (again) and feel that one of my downfalls is butter, so have decided to switch to a low fat marg or spread. Which is your favourite and which has the lowest amount of fat per 100g.

You and me both missprim. I use Flora extra light. It claims to be the lowest fat spread, and has 18g of fat per 100g. I think it's nice and can't really tell the difference between that and normal spreads. Obviously doesn't taste as good as butter, but then most fattening things taste lovely don't they? I'm having my last choc binge before diet starts tomorrow, LOL!!
If you can you should cut it out all together. Once you go without you miss it loads but after a few weeks you don't, you get used to it. I was told all these low fats where marg or butter watered down wisked and packed up.
We only add butter to refined foods anyway which are also bad for us. Appart from potatoes!
I find I can't control myself unless I cut it out altogether.
I use the soya margarine myself. I think manufactors are bleeding us dry with low fat/no fat products which most still have excess salf or sugar.
Best diet to follow is the one where you eat anything grown and not refined so thats fresh veg/fruit , fish , meat, chicken. No tins, packets etc.......... watch the weight drop off.

I also use Flora Light. I've already gone through my "using up the chocolate" binge. Trouble is, I do this the beginning of every January and then I replenish stocks.
I also use Flora light, the one in the blue tub.

At least this one tastes decent.
I prefer not to consume chemicals and always use butter. You need to watch the low fat spreads as low fat doesn't mean low carb or low calorie.
I went on a weight loss course last year and found out butter and marg have the same amount of fat. So you are batter having butter as it is natural and better for you. Just use less.
We use the tesco own brand olive spread and I honestly can't tell the difference between that and anchor spreadable. But as another poster has said, if its fat you are wanting to cut down on there is no point switching, If its calories then its a good idea. So you need to decide what kind of diet you are on I guess!

Thanks for all your answers. I am going to try Flora light and Tesco's own brand Olive Spread to see which I prefer. Must say I am confused by some of your answer though. You mention chemicals, thugulike, and I didn't even know there are chemicals in marg, and tensor saying butter and marg have the same amount of fat?
Surely there must be less fat in a light spread than there is in butter, did you mean marg as in Stork?
I'm really confused now, but I suppose the secret is to use less whatever it is.
I also choose butter as it has no additives (except salt) but why don't you try going without any spreads!! After a while you get used to it and you can use the calories for something more rewarding! Then when you do have butter/ spreads it is a real treat!!
