What does a traditional New Year's Day and Christmas meal consists of in your part of the world?

In G.B. Christmas dinner is turkey, stuffing, roast potatoes, brussel sprouts, parsnips, bread sauce and gravy, followed by christmas pudding (flamed with brandy) cream and/or brandy butter then coffee and mince pies (if you have room!) Personally I would replace the brussel sprouts with carrots.
Or Goose is also traditional. I'm not sure if there is anything specific that is a Traditional meal on new Year's Day.

In Scotland, home of Hogmanay, it is always steak pie with mashed potatoes , peas and another veg of your choice, in our house, usually carrots.

Jacket pots with left-over xmas fair.....cheeses/ham/mayo/sauteed greens. Ice cream swimming in brandy sauce. Tumbler of brandy 'cause I've been deserted by kids gone to hotter climes. Fed all their pets so time for me to veg out!
pigs in blankets are to go with blackcat's Christmas meal. They are little sausages wrapped in bacon, yum.

In the southern US, we cook ham, collard greens (for money) , black eye peas (for luck), corn bread, rice, and any other veggie that's wanted. Usually have some sort of cake or pie w/ ice cream for dessert.

What is "steak pie"? How is it cooked?

The first answer was for traditional New Years. For Christmas, it is roast turkey, stuffing, mashed potates, sweet potato cassarole, corn, green bean cassarole, butter beans, squash, rolls. Always, always (as with any meal) is sweet, cold iced tea. Lots and lots of different things for dessert. chocolates, cake, pie, ice cream & coffee.
Pretty much as said before.

We always have turkey with roast potatoes, carrots, parsnips, sprouts and gravy. Bread sauce, cranberry sauce and mustard on the side and stuffing of course.

For afters it is Christmas Pudding with homemade brandy butter.

My mum usually cooks a gammon ham as well to have with salads and such for teas over the Christmas period.

We spend the evenings with my dad's family and always have a gorgeous spread of mini salmon sandwiches, pickled onions, honey and wholegrain mustard sausages, etc... a cheese plate with biscuits then a lovely trifle for dessert.

Mum does the same as Christmas dinner for Boxing Day dinner and then there's the gammon for tea.

We had pigs in blankets for the first time this year as my dad spotted them on the shop lol :)

Nothing traditional for us New Years Eve save for maybe a nice roast dinner different to Turkey.

Thanks for the links to the recipes! I will definitely try them both! I'll let you know what I think but can't imagine it will be anything less than fabulous! :)
I've just checked the recipe for steak pie and I'm afraid I cannot let it pass.....it suggests SHORTCRUST PASTRY for the steak pie. That is just sooooo wrong. It absolutely has to be PUFF pastry. So there!
(The rest of the recipe for the stewed steak is fine, though)

Collard greens are a very dark green leafy vegetable - it is in the cabbage family. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Collard_greens. If cooked properly they are very delicious. We cut them up and cook with a little water, ham hock, onion, salt & pepper. When done we put vinegar on our individual serving.

I guess collard greens are as foreign to you as blood pudding is to me. What is that , by the way? I'm sure as many people who eat it, it must be good, but it sounds horrible.
Blood pudding also known as black pudding is made from onions, oatmeal, pork fat, seasonings and blood (usually pig)
I've never tried it as just the thought of it repels me!
