Please settle an argument. When boiling eggs in a pan on a gas hob, does the strength of the flame under the pan make any difference to gas consumption (and therefore the gas bill) or the pan itself?

Yes it does - if you have flames that are coloured orange at any stage, then you are wasting gas - you want blue flames.
Both. Some pans are very good at heat distribution and heat the water up very quickly so are more energy efficient.

The higher the flame the more gas you use.
