I didnt know where else to put this but was wondering...why is there a standard pattern on the filter? Who invented it/why is it used?

Originally, filters were made of cork (apparently) and the pattern was meant to replicate this. However, in the 70's there was a short-lived cigarette called 'Vogue' with the 'satin tip' and they regularly shot out yer gob because they were too smooth
