The first sprouts of the year are in the Coop, well, 24 less than this morning - love or hate? Boiled to a mush with chilli sauce and lashings of white pepper.

lol helloooooo, I'll have to check that out sod lol
Love, but have to be firm and preferably with butter and black pepper, but love them just as they come!

What, raw?
love 'em....steamed with a dollop of butter
Food of the devil.
No not raw, but cooked for about 5 mins. only so they are still bright green and have some 'bite'.

I could eat them raw though!!
I could eat them raw, not sure about mushed up with chilli sauce??? Boiled a bit but still firm with gray and black & white pepper. Think I might go and source some later now!
I meant gravy!
Or steamed as evedawn has said.

Actually I love all 'greens' and can eat platefulls!! (not mushy though)
Yes, lovely with gravy - loads of gravy. We get through loads of sprouts and fortunately they are available most of the year now.

Does anybody remember when sprouts were really only edible after the first frosts and used to go black and taste bitter? Apparently, they have 'engineered' them so that this doesn't happen any more?

Best thing about winter, sprouts. Incidentally, you know it is extremely unlucky to eat them in odd numbers? I buy depending on their size, if large, then 24, if tiny, then 36.
what if they are already weighed out in the green nets, how do you cope if there happened to be an odd number?
I love sprouts ,but not mushy thank you.Butter and pepper.
What happened to brussel tops ? You hardly ever see them now .
I love most veggies, but sprouts are my favourite!

I like them steamed, not too raw, but with a bit of a munch to them. The only time I like them a bit softer, is when mashing them to make bubble & sqeak rounds or squares!

Yummy with Sunday roast dinners & gravy!

Nets are a bit of a problem, if they contain an odd number, I cook all except one.
Sprouts are sweeter when frosted.....since we haven't had frost they will be bitter so freeze first before cooking.....then burp all day!
Yay, I love sprouts, and like the majority here prefer them mashed up with butter and pepper.

Why have you ressurected this old moniker whiffey?
Ooooh Shaneystar, Brussel Tops are just lovely! They probably feed them to the pigs now!! You don't see them in shops.

I keep getting banned B00, that's why. I'd better be good and stay well away from Chatterbank.
Sprouts is a fairly harmless subject.

Didn't know sod was Whiffy. Nice to see you back Whiffy.
