BREAD & BUTTER PUDDING
An old childhood favourite, this is my mum's recipe for it. I don't know how many people it's meant to serve, but it always did the three of us just right!!

INGREDIENTS
3 slices buttered bread
Handful sultanas

1 tbsp sugar
Half a pint of milk

1 egg
Sprinkle of nutmeg

METHOD
Grease a small casserole dish well. Cut the buttered bread into strips (approx 4 from each slice). Put the strips of bread (buttered side up) into the dish, sprinkling each layer with sultanas and some of the sugar. Beat the egg. Heat the milk and pour onto the egg, then mix. Pour the milk/egg mixture around the sides of the bread until almost the top of the dish. Leave to stand for half an hour. Sprinkle sugar and nutmeg on top and bake at 180/Gas Mark 4 for 45 minutes.

I use anything I have in, could be croissants or hot x buns. I often add chunks of plain chocolate rather than dried fruit. Yum.
Bevs' recipe sounds just like mine, but I also put a slice of buttered bread, cut into quarters, on top of the dish (gives a nice, crispy topping). B&B pud is one of my favourites!!
bread and butter pudding made with baileys is sooooooooo gorgeous you could eat a whole loaf made of it!!!!!!!
Try this one. It is the best bread and butter pudding ever. I prefer to use a flame gun to caramelise it at the end and also to use icing sugar as it burns quicker.

Gary Rhodes version of this classic uses only the egg yolks, 50/50 milk & double cream, & a vanilla pod or a few drops of essence. This recipe is supposed to avoid the firm & tasteless pud one often encountered.
